Letter to the Editor

In a time when public discourse can feel increasingly divided, it’s worth taking a moment to recognize the importance of character in those who step forward to serve our communities.
I have known Dr. Stephanie White, who is running for District 59 State Representative, for 13 years. I first met her through Louisville Family Fun when I was a mom simply looking for fun, affordable ways to spend time with my young children. I later met her in person at Prospect’s Henry’s Ark, where she had organized a “Cash Mob” to help raise money and support the beloved attraction. That experience left a lasting impression on me, not just because of the event itself, but because of the heart behind it.
While many may recognize her as the “Louisville Family Fun” lady, she is so much more than that. Over the years, I’ve watched her consistently invest in others, including my family. She has supported programs like Blessings in a Backpack, helped raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and contributed to Oldham and Jefferson County teachers’ classrooms in meaningful ways. She is also currently investing in the students of North Oldham High School, demonstrating a genuine commitment to the success and well-being of young people in our community. She has a gift for connecting families and highlighting positive opportunities for everyone.
I watched her navigate breast cancer and a doctoral program simultaneously with strength, dignity, and perseverance, all of which are admirable. But what stands out even more is how she treats people. She is genuine, with no hidden agenda, what you see is exactly what you get. She is always learning and eager to grow, never assuming she has all the answers. She listens. She engages thoughtfully. She creates space for respectful, intelligent conversation, even when perspectives differ.
Just as importantly, I have never known her to tear others down. She leads with kindness, choosing integrity and respect in both her words and her actions.
Character like that is worth recognizing.
Sincerely,
Nicolle Martin
