Vote White for House District 59

Dear Editor,

I first met Stephanie White in 2024, shortly after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through a mutual friend, Stephanie learned what I was going through. After a brief phone call asking if she could come over, she spent several hours sitting with me at my kitchen table, talking with me and holding my hands while I cried. As a fellow breast cancer survivor, Stephanie understood firsthand many of the emotions, questions and uncertainties I was facing.

From that day forward, she continued to show up whenever I needed her, offering a listening ear, words of encouragement and a commitment to celebrating both the small milestones and the major victories.

Going through that experience gave me an opportunity to see Stephanie’s strength, compassion and determination up close. I saw exactly how she treated someone going through one of the most painful, vulnerable moments of their life and that experience permanently shaped my understanding of her character.

Character matters tremendously when choosing who will represent us. My husband and I moved to North Oldham six years ago specifically for the exceptional public schools, and we remain deeply grateful for the opportunities our two daughters have here. However, like many local families, we have noticed a worrying trend. The teacher turnover has been higher than expected, and teacher vacancies threaten the stable foundation of our classrooms. As a parent, I want to see our teachers compensated fairly and our schools able to retain the outstanding educators already serving our children while attracting new teachers as well. Our oldest daughter participates in the GATES program, making access to specialized, experienced teachers particularly important to our family.

My perspective on these community challenges comes from being an Oldham County parent, navigating my own serious illness and maintaining a personal connection to Stephanie.

Oldham County faces critical decisions regarding our schools, budgets and public resources. We need leaders who lead with their hearts but possess the courage to deliver tangible results. Because I know her character when the cameras are off, I fully trust Stephanie White, Ph.D., to bring that exact compassion and fierce determination to the Kentucky House of Representatives.
